A Rose By Any Other Name Cover Reveal Signup!

Hello all! With the craziness of the THIRDS series releases, I've fallen a tad behind on a few things.

On Aug 14th I have the cover reveal of my roaring twenties historical A Rose By Any Other Name (Julius's book from Roses in the Devil's Garden) and I'm looking for any fellow authors, blogger, reviewers who'd be willing to host the reveal.

There will be a rafflecopter giveaway as well. It by no means has to be your only post of the day. I send everything html format, so all the images, codes, everything is embedded so all you have to do is copy and paste into your blog's HTML or Text editor. If you would prefer I send the elements separate, I can do that too, just state it in the box provided.

If you're interested, please sign up using the form below. Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

New Contracts!!

CharlieRoseHello all! I'm so so so excited to announce I've just signed two new contracts with my fabulous publisher Dreamspinner Press!!

The first is for Book 1 in the THIRDS series: Hell & High Water, and the second is for Book 2 in the Fallen Rose series (Julius's book): A Rose by Any Other Name (Roses in the Devil's Garden being Book 1)

Providing all goes well, the tentative release dates are June, for Hell & High Water, and Sept for A Rose by Any Other Name. I'm toiling away on THIRDS Book 2, Blood & Thunder. Fingers crossed I can get it done without too much of a delay.

So, this year, if all goes well, and my characters don't kick my butt, I'll have six books out. *Cue fainting*. That's right. 6. Last year I had 3: 1 novel, 2 novellas. This year, I'm hoping to have 5 novels and 1 novella. Did I mention it was going to be a busy year? Oh, and there's a website and some artwork I need to get done at some point. Still... CONTRACTS!! Woo!! Time for a dance.

Best Author Award and Writing News!

bestauthor2012Hello all! 2013 has started off with a bang. I've been awarded Best Author in the Speak Its Name Awards 2012 which is a grand honor for me. Not only am I absolutely over the moon to have received this award, but to read the lovely things Erastes had to say about my writing.

As you all know, I'm very passionate about these particular eras in history, so to know I'm getting it right means a lot to me. I want to be true to the men of these times yet offer them their much deserved happily ever afters.

On another happy note, Julius's book, A Rose By Any Other Name is finally finished! I finished it on the 31st and is currently going through it's final beta run before I get it ready for submission, all 96k of it! For those of you who may not know, Julius's book is the second book in the Fallen Rose series, the first being Roses in the Devil's Garden where Julius first made an appearance.

Whereas the first book is about Harlan and Nathan, Prohibition Agents working the more grittier parts of town raiding saloons and illegal speakeasies, Julius's book takes place two years later and shows us the more decadent part of New York during the late 1920s where the well-to do are kicking up their heels with an 'anything goes' attitude. Prostitution, bootlegged liquor, illegal clubs, there's nothing these high-society fellas won't find themselves involved with, all in the name of frivolity and good times. And for those of you wondering, yes, Harlan and Nathan are in this book. I'll be sure to share more information as I get it.  Happy New Year!

The Next Big Thing Blog Hop

I've been tagged by the awesome Hayley B. James to join the fun on the Next Big Thing Blog Hop and share a little about my current work-in-progress, so here we go!

What is the working title of your book? A Rose By Any Other Name

Where did the idea come from for the book? I had actually started it before Roses in the Devil's Garden, which is book 1 of the series, while this is book 2. When I was writing Harlan and Nathan's novella, I knew the fellas were all going to tie in together, and I had a certain character in mind who was going to share a few words of wisdom with Harlan. That fella turned out to be Julius. He fit in perfectly with Harlan and Nathan, and the pieces all started falling into place.

What genre does your book fall under? Historical Gay Romance

Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie? Wow, that is incredibly tough. Finding the right actors would take me way too long. I'm a big movie buff, so I'd have to find just the right guy, with the right look, and a whole bunch of other stuff to make things fit. So instead, I've written a little about each character.

Julius is the lead act at the Pantheon, a private Ancient Greek themed cabaret for gentleman of a certain inclination. In other words, a gay club. He's one of the Erotes (a group of Love Gods) and plays the part of Eros, God of love. mischief, lust and beauty. Blond, blue eyes, and a pout that can send a certain sensible man off the deep end.

Edward Jospeh Clarence Junior is the very picture of the perfect gentleman. He's the heir to the Clarence & Co. fortune but is a wealthy man in his own right. There's more to Edward than the unassuming high-society sweetheart everyone sees.

Maxfield Clarence is Edward's cousin and best friend. He's also the heir to the Regalia Hotel empire. He's an extremely difficult one to find the right fit for. One minute you think he's awesome, the next minute you want to push him off a cliff because he's being a complete bastard. He's sexy, infuriating, arrogant, and doesn't feel the need to censor his opinions.

Lawry Reinhart is one of Julius's best friends. He plays Himerus, God of sexual desire and unrequited love. Lawry is elegant, level-headed, the go-to guy of Julius's little trio, and there's nothing he wouldn't do to keep his friends safe. He's the oldest of the three, the wisest, and has had the misfortune of taking an interest in Maxfield. He has his work cut out for him.

Albert Harrison has been best friends with Edward and Maxfield since childhood, and Edward's father is Albert's godfather. Albert is the more timid of the the three and the most bashful. Sometimes he can be too kindhearted and it leads to folks trying to take advantage of him, especially since he's also wealthy. He can usually be found arguing with Maxfield.

Terry Talbot plays the Love God Pothos, who represents longing or yearning. He's mischievous, mouthy, flirtatious, and can usually be found exchanging snarky insults with Maxfield.

Aphrodite is the manageress of the Pantheon. She's a sharp shooter with an eye for business and men. The Erotes (Eros, Himerus, and Pothos) and the rest of the cupids are her boys. She's in charge of making sure the Pantheon's clients are happy, collecting the cash, and getting her way. Her life however is made difficult by Ares, bastard extraordinaire.

What is a one sentence synopsis of your book? Will your book be self published or represented by an agency?

One sentence? It takes me ages to write a full synopsis much less sum up a whole book in one sentence. My book is going to be represented through a publisher.

How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript? This is my first full length novel, so it's taken about 8 months though I've had to take breaks due to surgery and other shenanigans.

What other books would you compare this story to within your genre. I have absolutely no idea. O_o

Who or What inspired you to write this book? I was watching the first season of Boardwalk Empire and there was a scene where the main characters were gathered inside the hotel's nightclub. The music was great, the costumes amazing, and it had a real intoxicating feel of the period. I knew I wanted to write something that captured a little of that glamorous side of the Jazz age. Dancers, extravagant costumes, bootlegged liquor, and folks just being frivolous and naughty.

What else about your book might interest the reader? Aside the fact you get six handsome heroes for the price of two, you also get an appearance from Harlan and Nathan. Edward and Harlan's meeting was particularly fun. The story has a bit of everything, comedy, angst, tears, punch-ups, sex, drama, romance, action, so hopefully folks will enjoy it.

WIP Wednesday: A Rose by Any Other Name

workinprogressWelcome to this week's WIP Wednesday. Seeing as how my Love Is Always Write story, Roses in the Devil's Garden has gone up, I'm going to share a snippet of the second story in this series, A Rose by Any Other Name, which takes place two years later in 1927.
Julius Knight is at the top of his game. As the leading act at The Pantheon-- an Ancient Greek themed Cabaret at Club Parisian, Julius uses his beauty and charm to enchant and bring wealthy men to their knees. They lavish him with money, expensive gifts, and adoration. Life is fast, frivolous, and free. But appearances can be deceiving, and it will take department store heir Edward Clarence, to show Julius that not only is real love more than just a fantasy, it also doesn't come with a price tag.
In this scene, Julius and Edward meet for the first time. It's Edward's 30th birthday, and he's just returned to New York after spending 5 years abroad working in his father's London and Paris office.  To celebrate, his wayward cousin Maxfield, and best friend, Albert, have dressed Edward up in a (revealing and rather short) Chlamys, and now he somehow finds himself in Julius' dressing room.
Chapter Three
Julius turned and the witty remark died on his lips. “You’re not Ares.”
The man sitting in his favorite white armchair looked down at himself as if to verify the fact. “No,” he replied with a shake of his head, a smile tugging the corner of his mouth as he looked back up at Julius. “Merely a mortal.”   Amusing fellow, Julius thought wryly. “I see.” He cocked his head to one side, his gaze brazenly raking over every inch of the man. How had he managed to get in? Granted, many have tried, but none had succeeded, not without Julius’ approval. Yet, here he was, looking as if he wanted to be somewhere else. Not the usual response he was accustomed to, and certainly not from a man who had somehow broken into his dressing room.   Assessing the man, he had to admit, the fellow was rather pleasing to the eye, plenty-rugged, if not a little stiff. He was handsome, muscular, broad- shouldered. Nice legs, Julius mused, nice toes, too. Hygiene was non-negotiable. He preferred his men in shape, clean, and trimmed. All of which his mystery guest seemed to be. Despite being a little on the old fashioned side, the fellow’s black hair was neatly parted on one side. He had a nice tan that made his sharp hazel eyes stand out, a bottom lip fuller than the top, smooth chiseled jaw, and enough hair to make him perceptibly masculine without turning him into a fur coat. He wasn’t anything to write home about. At least that was Julius’ initial thought. However, on further inspection, there was something about the slight fidget, the hands clasped between the knees, the fascination in his gaze as he looked around the room that held Julius’ attention. It was almost… sweet.   Well, that just wouldn’t do at all. Julius sauntered over, bringing the most amusing little jump from his guest as he perched himself on the chair’s armrest and swung his legs up, delicately resting his feet on the man’s thigh. His handsome guest swallowed visibly and Julius smiled at the man’s obvious discomfort.   “What’s your name, sailor?” Julius purred, slipping his fingers into that thick jet-black hair. It was surprisingly silky and soft, not saturated with pomade. Unfortunately some of his guests wore so much of the stuff; Julius feared they might go up in flames at any moment. Considering how much smoking went on in the place, he surprised it hadn’t happened already.   “Edward,” the man stated as if he were standing before a court judge, his chest rising and falling a little quicker now.   “And what do you do for a living, Edward?” Julius asked.   “I’m a business manager, for Clarence & Co. Department Stores,” Edward replied a little nervously.   Julius should have known. Just another dapper daddy out for a night of scandalous behavior before returning to his office desk in the morning, pretending for all the world that his soul wasn’t as damned as the wanton degenerate he had had his way with the night before. After all, they were all ‘normal’ men, while men like Julius were the deviants.   They were all the same, and the more money they had, the worse they were. Julius was no fool. He knew these frivolous times wouldn’t last. Which was why—he reminded himself—he smiled and batted his lashes for men like Edward. Poor fellow, he was clearly in over his head. Julius was rather certain he hadn’t seen him around here before. He would have remembered.   “And what exactly where you hoping for, Edward?” Julius asked, his right hand caressing Edward’s cheek. He made his way slowly down his neck, over his collarbone, down his chest. His middle finger ghosted over Edward’s nipple, bringing a gasp from him. And he was wonderfully responsive to the touch.  Hm...   Julius had to admit he was enjoying himself more than he thought he would. By now, anyone else would have been groping, gripping, and spanking. Oh, but he did enjoy a good spanking, but not from just anyone. From the right person, it was titillating. From the wrong person, it irritated Julius to the point of physical retaliation, as in a good slap to face and an end to the evening. Edward looked like he was going to pass out at any moment, whether from fright or pleasure was anyone’s guess.   “Nothing,” Edward replied when he found his voice.   “Nothing?” Julius pouted, sliding one foot down Edward’s thigh and under his costume until his toes found what he was looking for, giving Edward a start. “Oh, but this doesn’t feel like nothing to me. In fact, it feels like something, a very big and hard something.” And that was no lie. Dear, dear Edward was deliciously endowed. Shame he was such a wet blanket. Edward gave a nervous laugh. “Sorry, I’m a little uh…”   “Excited?” Julius finished for him with a wicked smile.   “Yes, well, difficult not be under such circumstances.” Edward slowly and carefully nudged Julius’ foot away from his groin. Well now, wasn't this just dandy? First time anyone had ever pushed him away. Julius could certainly have some fun with this one.     Well, hope you all enjoyed that! I'll let you know on the progress of the story. Oh, and Harley and Nate show up in this story, too. ;
