Welcome to The Equal Rights Blog Hop

equalrightbloghop

Hello all! Hope you're having a wonderful weekend! Thank you for joining this fantastic blog hop. The theme of the blog hop is "What does being part of the GLBT community mean to you?"

As an author of Gay Romance, I don't write solely for the purposes of entertainment, but in the hopes that readers will take away something from what they've read. I tell stories about love between men, expressing how everyone has the right to their happily ever after, no matter someone's gender. Everyone deserves respect and the chance at a better life. One of my favorite genres to write in is historical, so a good deal of my stories are set in the 1920's or 30's, when it was far more dangerous for gay men. It's true, a few lived openly gay lives, and many did find their happily ever afters, but a great many didn't. They led double lives, were arrested, sent to workhouses, and shamed, considered deviants or ill.  I wanted to write stories about fellas who despite their hardships, find hope and love in eras long gone.

For me, being part of the GLBT community means spreading awareness and showing support, trying to make a difference in someone's life, no matter how small. It's about working toward a future where people aren't discriminated for their gender, race, religion, or who they love. Where our youth need not fear violence or abandonment for who they are. It's about being strong and using love to bring down hate, to educate and promote a safe, brighter future for everyone in the GLBT community.

Welcome to the Power of Love Blog Hop!

PoLblog hop pic

Hello all! Welcome to The Power of Love Blog Hop! For many of you, it's still winter, so to warm up your Valentine's Day, I'm offering some heartwarming stories, and a chance to win some nifty prizes! Grab yourself a cup of cocoa, coffee, tea, whatever gives you that fuzzy, yummy feeling, and let's get started!

Ah, Valentine's Day. Love it or Loathe it, it's inescapable. Not even my fellas can get away from it. Personally, I'm a very low-key kinda gal. I prefer a cozy night in with some good food, great company, and a little fun. When it comes to Valentine's Day, I tend to approach it the way my character Trip from An Intrepid Trip to Love does: with caution, distrust, and one eye on the door, ready to make a break for it. Let me explain.

For my newsletter, I wrote a short story for my subscribers featuring characters they voted for. Trip won, so he and the love of his life, Boone, got their own Valentine's Day story. Like Trip, I was thinking of what sort of Valentine's Day gift Boone would like. I shopped around online, while Trip shopped around in his fictional greeting card stores. We browsed. And browsed. And browsed. And Oh. My. God. Well, Trip's horror reflects my own.

Aside the onslaught of merchandise, most places divide everything up into gifts for him, and gifts for her. The majority of gifts for her consisted of lingerie, roses, chocolate, jewelry, stuffed animals, and the racier gift like nipple tassels (O.o) or uh, edible underwear. The guys got jewelry, and underwear, sure, but they got iPods, and red Converse sneakers, and electronics, and strawberries dipped in chocolate made to look like footballs.

Now, I have nothing against chocolate (I live for it), and I wouldn't say no to some bling, but if I got a pair of red Converse sneakers from someone on Valentine's Day, I would be all over that. There's just so much stuff, it's overwhelming. On the plus side, there are some... disturbing gifts our there, which makes for not only entertaining viewing, but writing. Here are some interesting gifts I came across:

Sexy underwear doesn't do it for you? How about underwear for two?

UndiesForTwo

Or how about the Girlfriend Pillow?

Or for your lover of horror, how about this heart cake from Lil Vanilli?

Want to hold hands this winter, but those pesky gloves get in the way? Share a heart-shaped mitten!

If all else fails, nothing beats a good old fashioned greeting card.

Fabulous Five Blog Hop

Fab 5 blog hopHello all! I’ve been tagged to answer these five fabulous questions on the Fabulous Five Blog Hop by the lovely Anne Barwellauthor of gay romance. Anne's published with Dreamspinner Press with titles including Shadowboxing, A Knight to Remember, and the upcoming Winter's Duet.

1. What am I working on?

Right now I'm working on Healing Hunter's Heart, book two in the Little Bite of Love series--the first being An Intrepid Trip to Love. It's been on the schedule for a long time but was temporarily put on hold while I worked on the first four THIRDS books. With those completed, I'm back on getting Hunter and Ari together again for their happily ever after.

I'm also working on some THIRDS series flash fiction and Against the Grain which is the fifth book in the THIRDS series from Ash and Cael's POV. There's also edits for Rack & Ruin, the third THIRDS book (due out in Nov) and Vixen's Valor the third North Pole City Tales book (due out in Dec). A Rose By Any Other Name is out in less than three weeks! It's been a pretty busy year.

2. How does my work differ from others in its genre?

I think every author has a unique voice, including me. I believe my readers know what to expect from my stories. There's always a sweet romance with plenty of humor. I don't think I could write something that didn't have some humor in it. I love writing banter and comedy. Always happily ever afters, even if the guys have to stumble along the way to get there. I also tend to write stories with pretty large casts.

3. Why do I write what I do?

I've been writing romance since I can remember, but I started writing m/m romance through the historical genre because I love the 20s and 30s, but it was tough finding stories with gay characters of the time that didn't end in tragedy. I wanted the fellas to get their happily ever afters. I found Whistling in the Dark by Tamara Allen by accident on Amazon while browsing. It was one of my first m/m romances and it stayed with me long after, not to mention inspired me to write my own historical m/m romance. I write what I do so my characters get their happily ever after and maybe touch a few hearts a long the way.

I've broken out into other genres because I love writing whatever catches my fancy. I also write to entertain. To sweep folks away to another time or world for a little while. Make them smile, laugh, and maybe shed a few tears. We all need to get away for a while sometimes.

4. How does my writing process work?

I get my best writing done on a deadline. Yep, I'm one of those people. It took me a while to figure out my pace and what I wanted to accomplish. Starting this year, I've been writing full-time, so I have a schedule I put together of what I'm writing and when. This helps me keep true series books especially from being released too far apart, which is a mistake I've made in the past. When inspiration strikes, I start asking questions, start listening to characters who start speaking to me. I begin planning and plotting, developing characters before I move onto a rough outline of what's meant to happen when. If I get stuck, I work on dialogue which helps me get unstuck.  I only work on one book at a time, unless I'm editing.  There's usually a lot of coffee and *headdesk* moments involved.

5. Who’s next on the blog hop? Some personal faves and awesome authors whose books I love: Lex ChasePiper Vaughn,  Kim FieldingMichael Rupured, and Sarah Madison

Pride Blog Hop hosted by Divine Magazine.

divine-pride-blog-hop

Hello all! Welcome to the Pride Blog Hop, hosted by the lovely folks at Divine Magazine. Thank you for joining us for this All You Need is Love Celebration!

As an author of M/M Romance, love is a key factor in all my stories. There's nothing I love more than creating characters and bringing them together. Of course the journey is never a simple one. There are trials and tribulations to surpass before that happily ever after is reached, just like in life. And just like in life, finding love isn't the end. In fact it's just the beginning. Sometimes the story begins with characters fighting to keep that love, or in some cases win it back.

In my THIRDS series, I love that I've been able to build Dex and Sloane's relationship and watch it grow. In book one the guys haven't even met. We follow them on their journey as they become partners, friends, and then so much more. We see their relationship grow from a sexual one to a romantic one. The two face countless obstacles on their road to love, and even after the "I love you" moments, they're growing as a couple. No relationship is perfect, but their love for each other helps them find balance, helps them try to be more understanding, and fuels their need to be there for each other, no matter how tough a situation they may be facing, and in the end their love is stronger for it.

The Romance genre is one of the top selling genres of fiction. What is it that draws so many folks to picking up book after book? What do you love about Romance?

The Pride Blog Hop runs from Sept 21st - Sept 28th. Giveaway ends Sept 28th at midnight and is international.
