Recent Reads - Take Two by Shira Anthony

RecentReads

Hello, all! This week I had the pleasure of reading Shira Anthony's Take Two, a sweet story about second chances. I'm a sucker for a good romcom, and this played out in my head a la Hollywood movie style. I could see it up on the screen, the kind of movie where you'd get cozy with your fuzzy socks, super soft throw blanket, and your favorite beverage. Take Two tells the story of two men very much in love, but just like in real life, they've discovered that love alone is not enough to sustain a relationship or a marriage. Wesley and Sam have been married for ten years, getting together back before both their careers took off. Wesley is a professor, and Sam is a Hollywood star.

One of the things I love about this story is the way the author weaves in scenes of the couple throughout their relationship so you really start to see why Wesley filed for divorce, and your heart breaks for him. The way he just hung on, waiting for Sam, his heart clinging on to the moments he could spend with Sam, always being patient and understanding. I also loved that it wasn't just a matter of getting back together. Things had to change.

On the outside, Sam appears to be perfect. A sinfully handsome man who's charming, talented, and a true romantic, but the more we got to know Sam, the more we could see his flaws. Watching Wesley and Sam both grow, and learn, seeing them rediscover each other was just wonderful. Oh, and drunk Wesley is the best thing ever. Just saying. If you enjoy sweet romance, second chances, swashbuckling, humor, and suspense, I think you'll enjoy Take Two.

take-twoLights, camera, action! When Professor Wesley Coolidge accepts a summer job as a historical consultant to a pirate movie being filmed in North Carolina, the last person he expects to bump into is his soon-to-be ex, movie star Sander Carson.

Just like the flamboyant pirate he’s playing, Sander, aka Sam Carr, is used to getting what he wants, and he makes it clear he wants Wesley back in his life. Sam lost Wesley when he left their life in New York City behind for a career in Hollywood. But Wesley has finally managed to put the pieces of his heart back together, and he isn’t interested in Sam and Wesley: The Sequel.

Convincing Wesley to give their relationship a second chance will take much more than Sam’s apologies and reminders of good times past. If Sam wants Wesley back, he’ll have to show Wesley that they really can sail into the sunset together—a real-life happily-ever-after that won’t end once the final credits roll.

Hello, all! This week we have the top of one of my bookshelves. I love colorful walls, and the dark mint makes everything pop. I'm also a sucker for pretty candles and candle holders. So how are you all doing? Any plans for the weekend? Mine include writing, writing, and yummy food. I'm going to make some scones this weekend with some double Devon cream I was able to get my hands on, and some lovely strawberry preserves.  I'm not a natural baker, so wish me luck!

Office Space - 9/23/16

Hello all! Welcome to this week's Office Space! If you missed the intro post to the new blog post series, you can read all about it here. Stationary-Satisfaction---C

This is the end of my desk and the shelving unit next to it. The spinning craft tray holds my newest Carpe Diem The Reset Girl and Posh planner accessories. There you see the trays of washi tape I use most often. There's Hershey kisses in that pineapple because sometimes you just need some chocolate. The paper tray has notebooks for whatever books I'm currenlt working on, along with some other bits and pieces. Then we have some pretty notebooks, and behind it file folders. It's being hidden by my mint tablet travel case. I'm always rearranging this section, so that washi tape will likely move somewhere else once I've organized my office closet.

Do you have a desk you work from? How do you keep it organized?

THIRDS Thursday - 9/22/16 Thick & Thin Excerpt

THIRDS Thursdays

Hello, all! Here's a snippet from Thick & Thin (Sequel to Smoke & Mirrors) which was recently contracted by Dreamspinner Press and due for release in Feb 2017. Thick & Thin is a novella which continues where Smoke & Mirrors left off. In this scene, the team has been called out to Greenpoint, which also happened to be Dex's first real call out back when he started on Destructive Delta. My how things have changed.

“You okay?”

Dex clipped Sloane’s PSTC kit to his tactical backpack. He smiled at Sloane. “Let’s do this.”

“Hey.” Sloane pulled him close, placing a gloved hand to Dex’s cheek. “You don’t have to pretend with me, you know that?”

“I’m a little nervous,” Dex admitted. “But I’ll be okay. Be careful out there, okay?”

“You too.” Sloane gave his lips a quick, but sweet kiss before he slipped behind the privacy screen.

Okay, Daley. Get your shit together. Time to pull his head out of his ass and get to work. He lowered his visor, and grabbed his tranq rifle from the weapons cage. Securing it closed, he met Rosa’s concerned gaze through the rearview mirror and gave her a wink. His team needed him.

“We’ll be back before you know it, Rosita bonita.”

“You better. Go kick some ass.”

Sloane’s pained groans and roars resounded through the closed truck, and Dex closed his eyes for a moment, letting the sound wash over him. His muscles tensed, and he gritted his teeth at the pulse of pain that spread through him. His muscles twitched, and he breathed out slowly through his mouth. Sloane’s Therian roar did something to Dex, and his eyes snapped open. His heart raced, and his pulse picked up. The pain in his body eased, and Dex hit the button to raise the privacy screen. Sloane’s fur bristled, and he lowered his head, his ears flat against his head. Why the hell was Sloane hissing at him?

Dex crouched down so they were at eye level. “What’s going on, babe?”

Another hiss left Sloane before he gingerly approached Dex, sniffing him, as if he didn’t recognize Dex. What the hell? Dex remained perfectly still as Sloane circled him. He sniffed at Dex, before pushing his nose against Dex’s cheek. Dex put his hand on Sloane’s head, and gave him a scratch.

“You had me worried for a second there.” Dex stood, and Sloane rubbed his head against Dex as he circled him, leaving his scent. When he was done, he padded to the end of the truck. Dex opened the door, and they hopped out.

“Took you long enough,” Letty grumbled. “We doing this or what?”

“You got a date or something,” Calvin teased, scratching Hobbs behind his ear. Hobbs let out a chuff, and playfully bumped his head into Calvin’s leg. “Planning on having a little Sci-fi marathon?”

“Shut up, Cal.” Letty cursed at him in Spanish before marching off ahead of them, Ash on her heels. What the hell was that about? Dex arched an eyebrow at Calvin. Mischief filled his friend’s blue eyes and Dex gasped.

“Oh, sweet baby Jesus, you found out Dimples’ name!”

Calvin grinned broadly, and wriggled his eyebrows. “He called this morning for Letty, and Lisa put the call through to me by accident. We had a friendly chat.”

“You ladies coming, or you gonna stand around all day gossiping?” Letty growled at them. Ooh, she was so not happy with Calvin. This was awesome.

Office Space - 9/16/16

Hello all! Welcome to this week's Office Space! If you missed the intro post to the new blog post series, you can read all about it here. Love---CCochet

I have a big L-shaped desk in the corner of my office. This is currently what's at the top of it. I recently purchased that cute little canvas print of the typewriter so I had to rearrange the top of my desk. My lovely friend Poppy helped me. I have a lot of mint, teal, gold, and pink in my office, so sometimes it's tough finding the right combination. The candelabra is from Ross, the lanterns from Pier 1 Imports, and everything else TJ Maxx.

What type of decor do you prefer?
